Chefchaouen has been the highlight of this trip so far. This tiny city located in the middle of the Rif mountains is absolutely gorgeous. The inhabitants are used to paint their white-washed houses in shades of blue. It produces a clean and fresh feel.

Budapest has a lot of charms but not as many as Prague. The architecture often is quite monumental like in Vienna. However, years of Communism have left many buildings crumbled, even on Andrassy St (Budapest Champs Elysée).

Encore un village de poupées

Telc est un petit village encore plus mignon que Cesky Krumlov. Non seulement la place principale est une merveille d'élégance avec ses façades Renaissance colorées, mais surtout, il n'est pas trop envahit par les hordes de touristes.

Prague

For a long time, I've been wondering why so many people around me were going to Prague. Was it because it's a hub for low cost airlines, or because there's always a wild electro-party going on in one of the biggest clubs in Europe, or because Czech girls are stunningly beautiful ?
Well, all those reasons can apply but it's also an amazing city for architecture and History... and the beer is super cheap !

Any hunchback around here ?

Yesterday, thanks to Philip and Julia, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the towers of Notre Dame cathedral by night. It wasn't the first time I visited the towers but I had never done it at dusk. Between June and September, on Fridays and Saturdays, the towers are open until 11pm.
Well... Climbing the hundreds of stairs to get to the top was a small price to enjoy such a magnificent view (not mentioning the fact that I didn't pay any entrance ticket
)

A long journey to Turkey
20:44 - By Arno - Greece - See the gallery - no comment
The original plan to get to Turkey from Mykonos was to go first to Syros were ferry connections are much better and then hop on a night ferry to Samos to spend a couple of days before crossing to Turkey.
Bad choice ! The 7h stopover in Syros made me regret not staying more. Ermoupolis the main city of the island is quite beautiful (especially Ano Syros the former catholic neighborhood) and much different than the other cities in the Cyclades (classical architecture which would suit Athens).

Antiquity, tradition and modernity

Despite quite a long and complex journey, I finally arrived in Mykonos. Mykonos is only 30km away from Naxos. However, off season, direct connections between those islands are pretty scarce so I had to return to Piraeus (5h), to cross all the Athens area (2h) and to take another ferry at Rafina, the second port of Athens (4h30).

Honeymooners' paradise

It's always annoying to be told that a place is "the most whatever in the world" by every tourist guide. Santorini is one of those destinations that every traveler should consider as THE most romantic place on Earth.
Truth is that Santorini is definitely romantic and a really beautiful island (It's the first I've visited so far) despite all the commercial touristic paraphernalia surrounding it.

Israel 2009
After visiting Akko I took some buses to make my way to Tel Aviv. I didn't know it but the timing was absolutely perfect to arrive in Tel Aviv. It was the exact day for the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the city. I just had the time to drop everything at Miki's place and off we went to the main square.

My quest for the Grail

Jordan 2009
It had been 4 days since I arrived in Jordan and I was still in Amman, using it as a base camp to explore the roman ruins of Jerash and the Dead Sea. Then I was incredibly lucky to find a guy who knew a guy whose cousin was a taxi driver who planned to go all the way from Amman down to Petra (3 hour drive) to pick up a rich and eccentric British tourist. Anyway, he was willing to give a lift to 4 travelers for as less as 5€ each !!! I know it sounds dubious but that's a true story!
That taxi driver was such a joke ! I wish I had taken some photos while he was dancing while driving, listening to a traditional tune on the radio (another true story). Luckily for us it was early enough (5-6am) to be almost the only ones on the road
We finally arrived in Wadi Musa, the closest village from the amazing Petra.

Sur le pont d'Avignon

Je n'avais jamais visité Avignon. Honte sur moi ! Heureusement, le boulot est là pour combler (en partie) ce manque.
Avignon, pour les touristes que nous étions, c'est surtout le palais des papes...

A nice locksmith's estate

Despite the terribly scary reports on the French suburbs (though fair & balanced), I decided to venture last week end outside the safer walls of Paris. I miraculously returned unharmed !
In a small town called Versailles, I stumbled upon a house which belonged to a locksmith (according to local people). Apparently, he was pretty successful in business...

Rainy day in Boston
01:21 - By Arno - Boston - See the gallery - no comment
It's been rainy and cloudy all day. I tried to visit some parts of the city that I couldn't see yesterday like the historic and wealthy Beacon hill neighborhood but it wasn't fun getting wet and cold...

Instead, I went to the Museum of Fine Arts. It is super modern and it has extensive collections from ancient Egypt to modern art masterpieces. Actually, with the price each visitor is paying (22$ !) it is quite understandable.
